Opus Vocale and Synagogale Ensemble Berlin
For the first time, the Louis Lewandowski Festival is exploring the world of the Psalms – ancient texts from the Tanakh that have been sung, interpreted and reinterpreted for thousands of years. They bring together spirituality, emotion and artistic expression across religious and cultural boundaries.
We are delighted to invite you to two summer concerts, performed by the Berlin chamber choir opus vocale and the Synagogal Ensemble Berlin. They will be performing together in Berlin and Königswusterhausen
A shared heritage – a diversity of voices
The Psalms have shaped both Judaism and Christianity for over 2,000 years. Despite sharing the same texts, different musical and spiritual traditions have emerged.
The programme takes the audience on a journey through various eras and cultural regions – from Salomone Rossi, through Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Louis Lewandowski, to contemporary composers such as Angelo Spizzichini and Cyrillus Kreek.

Opus Vocale
The Berlin chamber choir opus vocale was founded in 2002 by Volker Hedtfeld and has been a prominent part of Berlin’s ambitious choral scene for over 20 years. Its repertoire ranges from Renaissance and Baroque to contemporary choral music. In addition to challenging a cappella works, the choir also performs major oratorios and collaborates with contemporary composers.
The ensemble’s work is evidenced by its success in international competitions and CD releases featuring works by Jan Janca, Palestrina and Reger.
Synagogal Ensemble Berlin
The Synagogal Ensemble Berlin was founded in 2002 by Regina Yantian and brings together professional singers from the worlds of opera and concert performance. Its repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary synagogue music.
The ensemble has performed internationally, released five CDs and, since 2011, has hosted the Louis Lewandowski Festival, which, under Yantian’s direction, brings choirs from all over the world to Berlin.
