15.05.2022, 6 p.m.: Concert of the Synagogal Ensemble Berlin in the Kulturkirche Altona

„Louis Lewandowski and his influence on synagogal music in Europe“

Treasures of Jewish musical culture by Louis Lewandowski, Emanuel Kirschner, Heinrich Schalit and others.

After the enthusiastic audience response on the occasion of their first performance in October 2021, the Synagogal Ensemble Berlin now comes again to the Kulturkirche Altona and presents further works of Jewish synagogal music – this time by various European composers from Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine. Once again, you can expect moving alternating chants between soloist(s) and choir, accompanied by the solemn sounds of the French-Romantic Kuhn organ.
Founded in 2002, the Synagogal Ensemble Berlin consists of professional singers who perform internationally, but also sing in the choir of the Pestalozzistrasse Synagogue in Berlin, enlivening and celebrating the treasures of Jewish music and culture there and at international concert venues.
In the 20 years of the ensemble’s existence, the artists have given countless concerts in synagogues, churches or concert halls in Germany, Poland, Serbia, Sweden, England, Italy, Israel and South Africa – on May 15 now again in the Kulturkirche Altona in Hamburg.
